The death of your friends is an unnecessary tragedy. They were killed by Islam.

DAMN PROFESSOR THAT REALLY IS A BUMMER. REST IN PEACE TO YOUR FRIENDS. I WILL BE AVOIDING ALL MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREAS AND NEWSWORTHY EVENTS SO I DON’T BECOME THE THIRD.

Well, six years ago today, you wouldn't have even been safe in church (or at your hotel) if you were in Sri Lanka - c.f. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Sri_Lanka_Easter_bombings - ISIS picked Easter Sunday to blow up three churches and three hotels (and unfortunately the local counterterror group didn't take warnings seriously until the bombs started going off). It was again sort of it's-a-small-world to hear about, I'd been to one of those churches as a tourist and one of those hotels for dinner when in Colombo.

I know death comes to us all, sooner or later, but... it doesn't feel the same when it happens intentionally.
